Infuria la guerra sul pianeta Cybertron tra Decepticons e Autobots e le cose si mettono male per questi ultimi, tanto che il loro leader Optimus Prime organizza una missione di fuga verso la Terra, dove manda in avanscoperta Bumblebee. Questi atterra sul nostro pianeta nel 1987, sfugge ai militari americani e si batte con un Decepticon, su cui riesce ad avere la meglio però non prima di perdere la voce. Ferito si trasforma in un maggiolino Volkswagen giallo e in questo stato finisce in un'officina, dove Charlie passa parecchio tempo in cerca dei pezzi di ricambio per riparare la macchina di suo padre. La ragazzina non ha ancora superato il lutto del genitore e, visto che la madre ha trovato un nuovo compagno, non vede l'ora di andarsene di casa. I suoi piani saranno stravolti quando riceverà in dono una certa Volkswagen gialla...
