Spencer è uno studente d'arte che sente nella sua vita l'assenza di qualcosa di significativo che lo ispiri, fosse anche un evento tragico. Il suo miglior amico d'infanzia, Warren, ha ottenuto una borsa di studio come giocatore di calcio ma è insoddisfatto del college e della sua mediocrità borghese. Quando Spencer scopre che nella biblioteca della Transylvania University di Lexington in Kentucky, sono custoditi testi di grande valore, i due iniziano ad architettare una rapina e coinvolgono anche Erik e Chas. Oltre al colpo nello stesso college che frequentano, Warren progetta anche come piazzare successivamente una refurtiva così rara, entrando in contatto con mercanti d'arte europei.
