La storia narra il tema del doppio, a misura di bambino. Ambientata in epoca inglese a fine ottocento è un giallo in chiave comica, in cui i personaggi che ruotano attorno al protagonista cercano di venire a capo della strana situazione in cui si trova la casa del dottor Jekyll mentre lavora ad un oscuro esperimento. L’arrivo del misterioso signor Hyde crea scompiglio e allarme. I personaggi principali sono pupazzi, mentre i servitori sono interpretati da attori. La storia è il resoconto degli eventi che accadono in casa direttamente dalla voce dei protagonisti. Il notaio Utterson, flemmatico storico amico del dottore, il dottor Jekyll, vittima dei suoi stessi esperimenti, il suo malefico alter ego, Mr Hyde, che si impadronisce della casa seminando il terrore tra la servitù, composta dal distinto signor Poole, il maggiordomo, e dalla paurosa miss Crackers.
