Harvey Keitel è Bad Lieutenant, Abel Ferrara diventa un (cattivo) maestro. Sarà il suo capolavoro, l’apice di una carriera geniale, sregolata, selvaggia, caotica com’è lui. Delitti senza castighi, o quasi, in un film che è apologo amorale di un personaggio meravigliosamente negativo, Bad Lieutenant è una di quelle opere che cambia la vita e la visione di uno spettatore. Solo Abel Ferrara poteva raccontarci di un poliziotto corrotto, drogato di stupefacenti e gioco d’azzardo, e di una suora violentata in una chiesa, in un lungometraggio iperrealistico ed eccessivo, profondamente carnale – pensate a quanto è sexy e dolente il Keitel nudo e disperato – che è anche parabola cupa e spirituale. Ferrara, regista che ha saputo raccontare il sublime e l’osceno, che è stato raffinato e trash, qui riesce ad unire le sue due anime e a sintetizzarle anche grazie a un attore straordinario e spesso sottovalutato. Lui è un Cristo nero, torturato da colpe senza sensi di colpa, da un calvario che diventa sacrificio senza espiazione né vendetta, dalla lucida follia che lo percorre, nella quotidianità come nell’indagine più importante della sua vita. Bad Lieutenant è il più atipico dei classici del cinema moderno, da vedere in questa edizione per tre motivi: gli extra, video e non, il fatto che questa è la versione integrale – in Italia fu tagliato pesantemente per evitare divieti –, e che oltre a tutto ciò che abbiamo detto finora, questo è anche un fottutissimo noir da antologia. Abel, il Caino del cinema, non è mai (più) stato così vicino alla perfezione.
