Tante storie per giocare è uno dei più celebri "esercizi di fantasia" di Gianni Rodari. Si tratta di un libro per ragazzi, suddiviso in venti racconti per ognuno dei quali sono offerti tre finali diversi, con l'esplicito invito a mettere in gioco l’immaginazione del lettore, che potrà così inventarne altri. Il volume chiude con i commenti stessi dell'autore, che interpreta i diversi finali, introducendo i suoi lettori nel laboratorio di un inventore di storie. Lo spettacolo è una narrazione in musica ispirata all’opera di Gianni Rodari, in cui la musica e le sonorizzazioni dal vivo introdurranno il piccolo spettatore nelle tante storie per giocarci dentro.
«I tre racconti che compongono Tante storie per giocare – spiega il pianista, polistrumentista e compositore Matteo Ramon Arevalos – sono Il tamburino magico, Pinocchio il furbo e Taxi per le stelle, associati a un commento musicale ogni volta diverso. Il primo vedrà un intreccio continuo tra musica e testo, il secondo è una sorta di testo cantato con una canzone che abbiamo composto, mentre l’ultimo è un intreccio con musica di campana tibetana, tastiera e altri vari strumenti per sottolineare il testo, che è il corpo più importante». Questa lettura musicale si rivolge alla platea del teatro ragazzi, ma a fronte della genialità di Rodari e del talento di Lopez e Arevalos si presenta come un lavoro fruibile da qualsiasi pubblico.
