La mostra, inaugurata il 21 luglio in occasione della visita a Camaldoli del Presidente della Repubblica, intende ripercorrere attraverso i documenti d'archivio il periodo storico nel quale il “ Codice di Camaldoli ” ha visto la luce. Una prima parte ripropone alcune testimonianze di quella lunga stagione politica che vide instaurarsi sul territorio nazionale i regimi repubblicani (1797-1849), sulla falsa riga della Francia rivoluzionaria; ecco che i documenti ci presentano la figura di Napoleone Buonaparte impegnato nella Campagna d'Italia e l'instaurarsi della Repubblica Cisalpina , per passare poi a Papa Pio IX e all'avvento della Seconda Repubblica Romananel 1849. Si arriva così al “Codice di Camaldoli”, steso nel 1943 ma pubblicato solo nel 1945, e alla diciannovesima settimana sociale dei cattolici d'Italia, tenuta a Firenze nell'ottobre dello stesso anno. La seconda parte dell'esposizione si sofferma sul periodo fascista (1924-1940), sulla presenza a Camaldoli del Movimento dei Laureati di Azione Cattolica (1934-1945), per chiudere con i documenti legati al periodo della guerra (1943-1945).
Tutti i documenti esposti si conservano presso l' Archivio storico di Camaldoli , la Biblioteca antica “Ambrogio Traversari” e la Bibliotecamoderna “Odoardo Baroncini” , sede dell'esposizione.
