La famiglia Bonanno vive nella periferia di Palermo. Annachiara, figlia unica, è stata appena lasciata dal suo fidanzato e aspetta di vederlo un'ultima volta perché, secondo una vecchia usanza, ci si restituisce i regali del fidanzamento sfumato. Lucia, madre di Annachiara, rimprovera la figlia per essersi fatta sfuggire un buon partito e tra loro inizia un litigio. Nonna Filippa assiste alla lite e subito realizza che il ragazzo di cui parlano potrebbe cambiare le sorti non solo della nipote ma dell'intera famiglia. Improvvisamente l'anziana donna interrompe il diverbio e prende in mano la situazione. Lei è l'unica che, grazie ai suoi poteri occulti, può sovvertire l'ordine naturale delle cose e convince Annachiara e Lucia ad affidarsi totalmente a lei. Recitando un'antica orazione, nonna Filippa lavora il sangue mestruale della nipote affinché abbia il potere di riaccendere la passione in Federico e legarlo per sempre ad Annachiara. Una sola goccia di sangue viene nascosta dentro una gradevole tazzina di caffè che verrà offerta al giovane inconsapevole. Nonostante l'impegno delle tre donne, l'imprevedibilità del destino ribalterà ancora una volta il corso degli eventi.

La vicenda è ambientata in una cittadina del Montana, nel 1993: la giovane Cameron Post, sorpresa a baciarsi con una ragazza durante il ballo della scuola, viene spedita in un centro religioso, God’s Promise, in cui una terapia di conversione dovrebbe “guarirla” dall’omosessualità. Insofferente alla disciplina e ai dubbi metodi del centro, Cameron stringe amicizia con altri ragazzi, finendo per creare una piccola e variopinta comunità capace di riaffermare con orgoglio la propria identità. Tratto dal romanzo di culto di Emily M. Danforth, La Diseducazione di Cameron Post è diretto da Desiree Akhavan, regista newyorkese di origini iraniane già considerata una delle voci più originali e intense della scena indipendente internazionale. Il film ha consacrato Chloë Grace Moretz (Suspiria, Hugo Cabret) come una delle migliori giovani attrici del cinema americano di oggi.
