Nel cuore di Roma, con vista San Pietro, si erge un Palazzo. Il proprietario, come un mecenate rinascimentale, negli anni offre asilo ad una eclettica comunità di amici che ne trasforma ogni angolo in un set cinematografico permanente. Mauro, il più carismatico del gruppo, dirige i condomini in un film visionario, isolandosi progressivamente dal mondo esterno fino a non uscire più dal Palazzo. Nel momento della sua morte prematura, il gruppo di amici si ritrova, chiamato a ricevere in eredità le migliaia di ore filmate del capolavoro incompiuto a cui tutti hanno preso parte. Un lascito che scuote lo spirito assopito del gruppo e mette ciascuno a confronto con i propri sogni giovanili, in un tragicomico romanzo di formazione fuori tempo massimo.
